Client: California Seafood Chain
Need: Performance Improvement and Growth (Turnaround)
Problem: A family-owned San Diego, California based chain had hit a bump in the road. The innovative and successful 56-year old company was performing less than plan. Miick & Associates quickly discovered the reason: The company was overly centralized.
Solution: First, direction. Working with the chain’s owners and key management personnel, Miick & Associates helped the company establish a purpose statement and a set of operational goals. Second, we helped push decision-making and operational responsibility down to unit level. But we did so only after we trained all personnel through intensive leadership development, team building and coaching. Lastly, we helped the owners implement a series of management systems to improve costing, inventory control and hiring.
Results: Within one year, the chain experienced immediate results:
-
Food costs were reduced 35%; beverage costs declined 32%
-
Staff turnover from 150% to 30%
-
Inventory reduced by 87%
-
Profit sharing plan and incentive system put in place for every team member
-
Guest comments improved from 30% positive to over 90%
-
And, by the end of year two, revenues increased 40%!
